Although it may seem otherwise from the town s coat of arms, the name of Campanet has nothing to do with "campana" (BELL) . It derives from the late Latin term "capanna" and the plural form in Arab "kapanat" , meaning a cluster of huts. It proves that the area has been probably inhabited since prehistoric times. The medieval town grew around the "Alqueria" or farm of Campanet, which together with the hamlet of Ullaro belonged to the "Jus" (district in Arab) of Inca.
It was built on a range of hills which gave Campanet an elongated shape with streets climbing the hills. In King Jaume I s "libre de Repartiment" written after the catalan conquest, Campanet is described as a farm occupying 18 "jovades" (over 125 square kilometers), which together with Buger, the hamlet of Ullaro and Sa Pobla were constituted a district, and was part of the land belonging to the King that was assigned to the noblemen of Barcelona.
